Yankees 12, Mariners 3
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A WELL-PITCHED GAME MAKES!
Chien-Ming Wang was brilliant tonight, going 7.1 innings, allowing 1 run on just 5 hits. He left the game in the 8th after an undisclosed injury. I don't want to speculate, but it could be one of those blister-things that he gets on his pitching hand.
The Yankee offense EXPLODED for a 20 hit barrage against what seemed like 46 Mariner pitchers. The high-lights:
Jorge Posada went 4-4 with 2 solo homers.
Alex Rodriguez blasted a MONSTER upper-deck tater and singled.
Bobby Abreu went 4-5 with a double and a solo shot.
Robinson Cano went 4-5 with a double.
Wilson Betemit was 2-2 with a Ribbie.
Best of all, the win gives the Bombers a 2 game lead over Seattle, a 3.5 game lead over Detroit, and a 7 game lead over Toronto in the Wild Card standings. I STILL haven't given up on catching the Red Sox, but it's sure nice to have the safety net of the Wild Card. Regardless, it's still not over yet. A whole lot o' stuff can happen in the next 3 weeks.

Let's pummel them again tomorrow! Don't mess with the foul-pole squirrel!
GO YANKEES!

That whole squirrel drama has been hilarious. The Yankees have gotten some good luck with him. The bats were huge tonight, with Abreu, Posada and Cano each getting four, and A-Rod and Betemit getting two apiece. Four homers tonight were big. Jorge has had an enormous year, and in any other year would be an MVP front-runner.
But you're right--Wang was the difference, getting 17 ground outs, including three inning-ending double-plays from the 5th through the 7th. Let's get the series tomorrow. Let's Go, Yankees!
