Great American Quote Of The Day: Part One Hundred-Ninety-Nine
I didn’t think like that, about best
seasons. What if you thought ’97 was your best year — what would you do
now? I never looked back. I couldn’t dwell on last year’s season. I
always looked forward. I never worried about what other people were
doing — except the guy I was playing against.

At Last!!! A Win!!!
The Yankees fought their way to the win tonight, despite not playing their best throughout the game.
Tyler Clippard got the gutsy win, even though he was very erratic.
Robinson Cano had 4 hits, including 3 straight doubles.
Johnny Damon homered to lead off the game and singled, as he collected career hit number 2000.
Alex Rodriguez drove in an insurance run in the 9th, and pulled off a classic Little League play in the same frame. With 2 outs, Jorge Posada popped up to 3rd. Rodriguez, jogging towards the bag, yelled "I got it!" prompting the Blue Jays’ 3rd baseman to let the ball drop between himself and the shortstop. Hideki Matsui scored and Posada was credited for a single and an RBI.
Jason Giambi followed with a single up the middle to drive in both A-Rod and Posada.
Mariano Rivera shut the Jays down for the final out of the 8th and followed that with a hitless 9th for his first save since May 3rd.
Let’s just hope that THIS is the start of a run. On to Boston!

Let Sleeping Dragons Lie…

As I perused the Red Sox blogs this morning, I was not surprised to see the report of the Yankees demise written in so many ways. The Yankees began today 14 1/2 games behind the first place Bosox, and in last place. The RSN Blogs crowed that the Yankees were finished for this season. At times, I have been want to agree with them so far.
Yet…
While there’s no doubt that the Bombers have STUNK up the season thus far while the Red Sox have been spectacular, the FACT of the matter is that there’s STILL a long way to go this season. Exactly 113 games left.
I, for one, do not mind when Red Sox fans become overly confident. Through the first 2 months of the season, the Boston Nine has EARNED the confidence of their fans.
But I WOULD say this, however…
It is best to let sleeping dragons lie.

Now I REALLY Feel Old…

A couple of months ago, my oldest daughter Sarah got her driver’s license.
This month, she graduated High School.
Then, this past week, she was accepted into the University of Kentucky.
This August I’ll celebrate my 45th birthday.
None of these things make me feel old, however…
Today, though, as I was coming back to the shop, I passed an old man on the side of the road. He was wearing a jogging outfit, even though he was barely able to walk. He was probably in his 60s, and was listening to a walk-man as he ambled along at his tortoise-like pace.
He was wearing a Led Zeppelin Tee-Shirt!
Now, THAT makes me feel old…
Great American Quote Of The Day: Part One Hundred-Ninety-Eight

I can’t think of anythingmore humiliating than losing a ballgame to a guy who steals home on
you. It happened to me one time against Kansas City. I had a 2-2 count
on the hitter – and Amos Otis
broke from third. The pitch was a ball and slid in safe. I felt like a nickel.
Nolan Ryan
Blue Jays 3, Yankees 2
Still, another uninspired loss.
I’m feeling like a voice crying out in the wilderness: "WE NEED TO MAKE SOME CHANGES! NOW!!!"
Andy Pettitte pitches well enough to win, but the offense deserts him…again. He allows a runner to steal home.
Yawn. Not a whole lot to cheer for OR about.
The Yankees are the worst TEAM in baseball, and they don’t seem to give a flippin’ ****. Nor does their manager. I’m SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO disgusted, I feel like throwing up. This is the way that fans from OTHER teams are supposed to feel, not Yankee fans.
But I just can’t seem to give up hope just yet.

Great American Quote Of The Day: Part One Hundred-Ninety-Seven

I just liked the way he (Thurman Munson) played the game. He was aleader first, a teammate second and whatever he did on the field was
second to him. He wanted everybody to feel comfortable. He wanted
everybody to be on the same page, ready for every game.
Jorge Posada
Blue Jays 7, Yankees 2
The losing continues…
Hideki Matsui hit a 2-run homer and Derek Jeter went 2 for 4.
There needs to be a change.
